Fountain of the Fallen Angel - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
The Fountain of the Fallen Angel is an official topographic altitude of 666 meters above sea level in Alicante. This, coupled with the existence of a modern popular misconception according to which the monument is a "tribute" to Lucifer and evil, has caught the imagination of many fans of the esotericism. However, this fact is not at all uncommon in Madrid, precisely because the average height of the Spanish capital is 666 meters above the reference. Any chance that this European capital has been chosen to locate the only public statue of the devil in the world? Who knows?

The Fallen Angel (El Ángel Caído) is a famous statue in Parque del Buen Retiro, Madrid. The statue, atop a marble pillar in the middle of a fountain, is the only public monument to the Devil himself. It shows the moment when Lucifer is cast out of Heaven, inspired the passage about the war in heaven in Paradise Lost (John Milton) and created by Ricardo Bellver.
The Fallen Angel was originally made for the third World's Fair in Paris and was then acquired by the Prado Museum who donated it to the city. it was set atop a marble pillar in the midst of a fountain in Retiro Park in 1885. Aside from the subject matter, the Fallen Angel is well known for the sense of tension and anguish given to Satan at his fall.
