The Singapore Art Museum houses the the national art collection of Singapore. The museum building first belonged to the St Joseph's Institution, the first Catholic school in Singapore, which was restored and opened as the art museum in 1996. The Singapore Art Museum has 13 galleries and over 4,000 exhibits, making it the largest collection of 20th century Southeast Asian art in the region.
