The Sacristy of San Miniato al Monte church in Florence is reached by ascending the steps at the end of the right aisle and then turning through the door on the right. It is finely decorated with 14th century frescoes by Spinello Aretino which show the life of Saint Benedict. The work was commissioned by Benedetto degli Alberti.
The frescoes on the Sacristy ceiling depict the Four Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John set against a beautiful blue background decorated with gold stars. The wooden furniture and decorated panelling around the Sacristy dates from the 14th century. While entrance to the church is free, a small 1EU donation is requested of those wishing to see the Sacristy, which goes towards conservation of the room.
