Salisbury Craggs in the Early Morning - FURTHER INFORMATION
Salisbury Craggs in the Early Morning - Edinburgh visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Salisbury Craggs in the Early Morning' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Lothian.
Salisbury Crags are dolerite and columnar basalt cliffs carved by glaciation. The cliffs are up to 46-metre (150 ft) high and are popular with walkers and climbers alike, providing stunning panoramic views of Edinburgh from the top.
Below the cliffs is a steep talus (scree) slope, which ascends from the base of Holyrood Park to the bottom of the cliffs. A broad, but steep, wide gravel, walking track ascends from northern end, near to the Scottish Parliament and Palace of Holyroodhouse. This track follows the base of the cliffs before descending to a car park at the southern end of the ridge.
Other walking paths ascend the eastern slopes to the top of Salisbury Crags providing even better panoramic views over Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth and far beyond.
