San Salvatore al Monte Church - Florence visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'San Salvatore al Monte Church' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Tuscany.
San salvatore al Monte Church (Chiesa di San salvatore al Monte) stands on the flank of Mons Fiorentinus in Florence part way between the more popular attractions of Piazzale Michelangelo and San Miniato al Monte Church.
Called 'la bella villanella' (the beautiful country lass) by Michaelangelo, San salvatore al Monte Church is often overlooked by tourists. Designed by Cronaca in the late 15th century the church has a simple plaster facade with tympan windows and by portals. Inside the church layout follows the model of other churches in Florence like Santa Maria Maddalena de'Pazzi.
As this image shows, the interior is relatively plain, with a wooden ceiling and various side chapels. Several 16th and 17th century paintings adorn the walls, including 'Deposition' by Giovanni della Robbia and a 'Pietà' by Neri di Bicci.
Entrance to Chiesa di San salvatore al Monte is free.
