The Scottish Parliament Buildings were designed to reflect the natural landscape of Scotland. This is helped by the natural setting of the Parliament, on the edge of Holyrood Park and overlooked by Salisbury Crags. The Scottish Parliament was designed by Enric Miralles. It opened in 2004 to much controversy, being 3 years late and costing 10 times the original budget. The buildings are at the end of the Royal Mile, opposite Holyroodhouse Palace and the Queens Gallery. It is a mile away from Edinburgh Castle.
