Piazza della Stazione (Station Square) occupies the area in front of the central railway station in Florence. Just over the road is the Tourist Information Centre for Florence.

Florence central train station is called either 'Centrale' or 'Stazione Firenze Santa Maria Novella' (Firenze SMN), named after the Santa Maria Novella church which can be seen nearby. The footprint of Firenze S. Maria Novella station is massive, and can easily be made out from panoramic viewing platforms either at the top of the Cupola of Florence Cathedral or the top of Giotto's Campanile

Firenze S. Maria Novella - Information and Assistance

The Firenze SMN information office is on the ground floor. It will provide information on train schedules, ticket prices, bookings and promotional offers. The office is open from 07.00 - 21.00 every day. Train information can also be obtained from Trenitalia Call Centre (89.20.21 without adding a prefix) from any fixed-line telephone in Italy.

Note: Some intercity trains may depart / arrive at either Firenze Campo Marte or Firenze Rifredi instead of Firenze SMN. Travellers must make sure they have the right ticket and station to catch their train.
