Fountain by Fortezza da Basso - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Virtual tour of the park next to the Fortezza da Basso in Florence. In the middle of this small park is a fantastic fountain. Not on the beaten tourist track though.

Fortezza da Basso (Fortezza di San Giovanni Battista) is a large fortress built into the 14th century city walls around Florence. Standing just north of Firenze S. Maria Novella Station, the fortress is today contains various exhibition and performance spaces, including the Palazzo delle Esposizioni. The original complex was built in the 16th century on the orders of the Medici, one of the most powerful families in Florence at the time. The layout of the fortress can clearly be seen on the satellite view of the Google map of Florence. Though impressive to look at, this is not a tourist attraction.
Fortezza da Basso is now entirely surrounded by major roads leasing out of Florence. On the eastern side is a small park containing the fountain shown in this picture. Despite it's size, the park is not much used due to the major roads that need to be crossed to get there.
