Piazza dell'Unità Italiana is right next to Firenze SMN Station, next to Santa Maria Novella and a short walk west from Florence Cathedral in the heart of Florence. It is named in 1882 to commemorate the unification of Italy and in the middle is an obelisk erected in honour of the fallen during the wars of independence.

Piazza dell'Unità Italiana as a space has existed in Florence from the 10th century and was previously called 'Old Town Square of Santa Maria Novella' (Piazza Vecchia di Santa Maria Novella).
