Kinghorn - FURTHER INFORMATION

Kinghorn is a small seaside town on the north coast of the Firth of Forth in Fife, almost directly opposite Edinburgh. It is famous as the place where King Alexander III of Scotland died falling from a horse while returning from Burntisland to see his new wife. It has the busiest RNLI lifeboat station in Scotland.
Kinghorn was a Royal Burgh, and the castle, now demolished and built over, was often visited by the Scottish Court in the period of the House of Dunkeld. The town was fed by water from Loch Kinghorn. The fortunes of Kinghorn changed dramatically with the arrival of the railway in 1846 and the ferry services across the Firth of Forth to Pettycur Bay ended.
