Dunfermline Abbey is one of the attractions in Dunfermline , north of the Firth of Forth and Edinburgh in Scotland. It is a large Benedictine Abbey that was founded in 1128. The current Abbey church is a Romanesque church built in the 12th century on top of an earlier church, and is one of the most important cultural sights and attractions in Scotland.
The abbey burned in 1304, shortly after the departure of the court of Edward I of England. In 1560 it was by Reformers and then rebuilt in 1570. In the 19th century the church was altered again, resulting in the building seen today.
Dunfermline Abbey is a top tourist attraction in the region, visited by 20,000 to 30,000 people each year. Within it is buried Robert the Bruce and seven other Kings of Scotland. The church also boasts magnificent stained glass windows from various periods and the pulpit which dates from 1889.
