Puerto del Asón Waterfall - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This 70 metre high waterfall is at the end of a steep valley within the Asón Natural Park in Cantabria, northern Spain. It cascades out of the sheer rock face from a limestone cave system hidden deep within the mountain, to form the source of the River Asón.

Puerto del Asón Waterfall lies within the Parque Natural de los Collados del Asón (Collados del Asón Natural Park), which lies a little south of Arrendondo in Cantabria in northern Spain. The source of the Asón river also rises within the park which is a popular place for hiking and walking.
Parque Natural de los Collados del Asón
Collados del Asón Natural Park contains about 4020ha of public forest and 720ha of private land. It lies between 240m and 1581m above sea level in the limestone Alto Asón massif and was moulded by glaciation. Within the park region are numerous small settlements and villages.The park is full of caves, numerous waterfalls and beautiful scenery. Among the popular walking routes are:
- Assos - Sotombo - Perracolina - 13km long (6 hours) with maximum elevation of 1200m.
- Collados del Asón - Monte Llusías - Hondojón - Collados del Asón - 13km long (5 hours) with maximum elevation of 600m.
- Lunada - Colina - Saco - Collados del Asón - 15.5km long (5 3/4 hours) with maximum elevation of 600m.
