Panorama from outside the Sri Mariamman Temple in Singapore taken at night. The Sri Mariamman Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore, built between 1862-3. It is thought that a thatched shrine was on the site since 1827. The last renovations took place in 1996 when the Sri Mariamman Temple was then gazetted as a National Monument by the Singapore Government.
The temple is dedicated to Sri Mariamman, a manifestation of the Great Goddess, popularly worshiped in southern India under the name 'amman' (lit: mother) by those seeking health and prosperity.
