A few minutes east of Cobar is the 300 metres high Fort Bourke Lookout which provides panoramic views over Cobar, the surrounding outback plains new Cobar gold mine with the open pit and the entrance to the underground mine at the bottom of the pit.

The rich mineral belt running in a straight North-South line is clearly visible in the pit.
