Duddingston Kirk is a 12th century church found in Duddingston Village, on the eastern side of Holyrood Park next to Duddingston Loch in Edinburgh. The church was built in 1124 by a Norman knight called Dodin, on land granted to Kelso Abbey by King David I of Scotland. The square tower is original, but the church was subsequently enlarged with the addition of the Prestonfield Aisle to the original chancel and nave in 1631.
At the entrance to the graveyard is a gatehouse, built to dissuade body snatchers (known as 'resurrectionists') from stealing bodies to sell to anatomists in the early 19th century for dissection and experimentation. Various notable people, including John Alison, are buried in the graveyard.
The church is one of the oldest places of Christian worship in Scotland and sitll active today.
