The Buttercross in Bungay in Suffolk was rebuilt after the Great Fire of Bungay in 1688, which destroyed most of the town. Sittuated in the middle of the Market Place, it is the location of a local farmers produce and butter market, which has existed here on Tuesdays since 1382.
Beneath the Buttercross there used to be a prison and dungeon. Today, the Buttercross is the starting point for the Town Trail tourist walking route around Bungay. It also makes a good finish point, surrounded by many fine shops and cafes.
