The Walton Burn is a small stream that flows the Red Burn and then into the Forth and Clyde Canal just north of Cumbernauld in Strathclyde. Next to the tunnel is Castlecary (or Castle Cary), a a fifteenth-century tower house on one of the principal forts of the Roman Antonine Wall. The tower of Castlecary is about 12m high, made from rock collected from a nearby Roman fort.
Just before the tunnel the Walton Burn tumbles down a 25m escarpment creating the Walton Burn Waterfall.
