Riodades is a small village on the banks of the Tavora River in the São João da Pesqueira municipality of Portugal. Nearby are the villages of Carrolas, Esqurquela, Vale de Penela and Guedieiros. Resting in the Beira interior region, it is surrounded by massive granite outcrops, vineyards and olive groves.
The region around Riodades has been occupied since prehistoric times, and the area has also seen Roman and Moorish occupation over time. Being in the dry interior, Riodades has suffered from various wildfires over the years.
Riodades - Tourist Attractions
Riodades is surrounded by mountain and valleys which contain a number of archaeological sites of intereste:- Fraga d'aia - prehistoric site containing granite boulders with rock paintings.
- Carapito and Ribadela - Roman sites containing some fortifications, Carapito was referred to as a castle in the 11th century.
- Chapel of Santa d 'Alegria - situated on top of a hill overlooking Riodades.
- Quinta da Romãs Avó Inocência - fertile olive groves and vineyards around Riodades.
