Southern Ocean Beach - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Several crossings give 4WD vehicles and walkers access to the 140km long Southern Ocean beach on the western side of the Coorong National Park. While the beaches are unsafe for swimming they provide endless opportunities for walking, fishing or sand boarding on the steep slopes of the dunes.

Southern Ocean stretches along the entire 140km coastline of in South Australia. The beach and surrounding wetlands are a haven for various migratory birds, including ducks, swans, cormorants, seagulls, terns, grebes and pelicans.
Southern Ocean is a remote beach, accessed via 42 Mile Crossing from the highway. This road crosses the mud flats to a capmsite, suitable for caravans. From the camp ground a rough path suitable for 4WD vehicles only crosses the dunes to the beach. Other campgrounds along Southern Ocean beach suitable for caravans are Parnka Point, Long Point and Mark Point.
Wood fires are permitted on the ocean beach all year round unless there is a total fire ban. Gas fires are allowed during the fire danger season unless there is a total fire ban. Pets may be walked along the beach, but not in other parts of the park. The beach offers excellent surf fishing.

Road: Coorong National Park is 180Km south of Adelaide (M1 and B1 roads). It is 266km north of Mount Gambier (B1).
