The Piazza Terracina - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This little square located at the end of the Exeter Ship Canal basin at Exeter Quay is named after one of Exeter's twin towns, Terracina, 100 km from Rome.
To the left end of the canal you can see the remains of a railway turntable, now converted to a seating area. This turntable is a very rare example of Isambard Brunel's broad gauge branch line built in 1867.

Piazza Terracina is a popular shopping attraction in Exeter in Devon. Lying on the west bank of the River Exe, just over the river from the Historic Quayside, it is full of galleries, restaurants and cafes. During the summer months, Piazza Terracina also hosts a number of events and activities for visitors.
Parts of Piazza Terracina reflect the history of Exeter, as evidenced by the remains of the 19thcentury railway turntable within it. Nearby is Heaven Bank, which is also popular for shopping and has good views over to Historic Quayside and Regency Colleton Crescent on the other side of the river.
The River Exe can be crossed nearby using a floating bridge known as 'Butts Ferry', one only five floating bridges in the UK.
