Saint Ouen (Saint Ouën) is a village and the furthest parish from Saint Helier, near the western end of Jersey in the in the Channel Islands. At the heart of the parish is the manor house for the Carteret family, which has been in the family for over 800 years. Saint Ouen is reputed to be the most conservative parish on the island.
Saint Ouen - Tourist Attractions
St Ouen is within easy access of any of the tourist attractions on Jersey Island. Some of the top local attractions include:- Treasures of the Earth - containing a Crystal Cave Exhibition and the largest amethyst crystal on earth with an adjoining shop and gallery.
- Channel Islands Military Museum - as the name suggests, a museum to the military history of Jersey, found behind the Jersey Woollen Mills.
- Kempt Tower Visitor Centre - a genuine Martello tower built in 1834 and one of the most impressive fortifications along Five Mile Road.
- Jersey Battle of Flowers 2011 - held annually each august with stunning day and night parades of florally decorated floats in a carnival atmosphere.
- Grosnez Castle - ruins of a 14th century castle probably destroyed by the French in the 16th century.
- Le Pinacle - prehistoric neolithic site positioned below an imposing pinnacle of rock with two earthen ramparts, one of the Jersey Dolmens.
- La Hougue des Geonnais - Neolithic passage grave in which were found various pieces of pottery, flint scrapers, arrowheads and broken querns.
- Les Monts Grantez - Neolithic passage grave still fairly intact and partially covered by large granite boulders with a main oval chamber and a small side chamber.
- Jersey War Tunnels - exhibition and museum to the German occupation of Jersey in WWII.
- La Mielle de Morville - remains of an extensive sand dune system that once filled the bay of St Ouen, now run by the National Trust and containing walks.
- Les Landes racecourse - racecourse and home to the Jersey Race Club, about 4 miles north of St Ouen.
- Les Mielles Gold and Country Club - 18 hole golf course and country club just south of St Ouen.
