Naters is a small village on the north bank of the Rhone River opposite Birg in Switzerland. The town diminished in importance as Birg, with access to the Simplon Pass, grew up on the southern bank. Naters has a picturesque marketplace and the St Mauritius Kirche
Today, Naters remains a picturesque alpine town, with good access to the surrounding mountains for walking in the summer and skiing in the winter months.
Naters- Skiing
Naters is part of the Belalp-Blatten-Naters ski region, known for remarkable glacial landscape and supplemented with with snow-making canons. The resort as 4 black, 6 red and 4 blue runs, covering a total of 60km downhill skiing piste served by 10 lifts serving up to 12,400 skiers / snowboarders per hour. It is considered to be very good for expert and intermediate skiers, and good for both beginners and snowboarding. In addition, Belalp-Blatten-Naters has 2km of cross country trails. Additional skiing is found in nearby Aletsch.The resort is found at 1322m and the lowest piste is at 2300m. There is a 1790m maximum vertical climb, with the highest lift at 3112m. There are plenty of hotels and ski chalets available both in Naters and the surrounding villages. The town is within the Jungfrau-Aletsch World Natural Heritage Site.
