Cap de Cavalleria - FURTHER INFORMATION

Cap de Cavalleria - Menorca visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Cap de Cavalleria' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Balearic Islands.

Cap de Cavalleria is the northernmost point on Menorca, the endend of a long and barren peninsula that extends about 4km north of the rest of the island. The lighthouse seen here has no access, but the scenery around the area is dramatic. It is not well visited as an attraction, but for those that do the area has a dramatic landscape and drive on offer. The area around here is remote and uninhabited, miles away from the sandy beaches and large hotels.

The road out to Cap de Cavalleria (called the Cami de Far, Camino de Far, or cf-3) rises and falls with the dramatic topography of the peninsula passing Cala Viola de Llevant and the optimistically called Port de Santija on the way. For tourists there is the Ecomuseu Cap de Cavalleria (Museum of Cap de Cavalleria) with it's small collection of artifacts from when the Romans and Phoenicians occupied the port of Sanisera.

This panoramic photograph was taken from the right of the lighthouse. There is a second panoramic image taken from the left of the lighthouse overlooking the S'Olla, a cove whose steep cliffs descend vertically into the sea.

TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE

Foad: From either Ciutadella or Mahon, take the Me-1 to El Mercadal and then the cf-3 north passing Binissarret and Binissaria. The cf-3 continues past Estància d'en Magister and passes through Cavalleria when it becomes the Cami de Far.

The alternative is to head 7km north from Es Mercadal (4km south from Fornells) along the C-723 (Me-15) and then west along the road signposted for Cala Tirant and Cap de Cavalleria. This small lane joins the cf-3 a little beyond Cala Tirant.
