Broken Hill is a mining town in New South Wales, about 500km from Adelaide and 1000km from Sydney. The rail is used to take ore away from the mines. It is also one of the main stops of the transcontinental Indian Pacific railway service that runs weekly between Sydney and Perth.
On the hill above the station in the Broken Hill Miners Memorial, a testament to all the miners who have died in the mines under Broken Hill since operations began in 1883.
