Pompei is a city near to Naples in Italy. Lying at the base of Mount Vesuvius, it is most famous for the ruins of Pompeii, the Roman town buried in a volcanic eruption in 79AD. Today, almost 2.5 million tourists come to Pompei each year, but most spend little time in the town except to visit the ancient ruins of Pompeii, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

- Herculaneum - Roman town buried by Mount Vesuvius eruption in 79 AD.
- Stabiae - Roman port 4.5 km southeast of Pompeii also buried under 2m of tephra ash in the 79AD eruption.
- Villa Poppaea - Imperial Roman villa in Oplontis that was owned by Emperor Nero and contains some of the best preserved Imperial frescoes in Italy.
- Basilica of Madonna del Rosario di Pompei - Catholic pilgramage church in Pompei containing a painting by Luca Giordano.
- Pompeii History Museum - containing replicas of casts and artefacts from Pompeii as well as rock sample and documents about Vesuvius.
