Located between the Parque Eduardo VII and Liberty Avenue, the Marquês de Pombal Square is one of the most remarkable and historic squares the city of Lisbon, Portugal.
In the center of the square stands the Monument to the Marquês de Pombal, opened in 1934. At the head of the center of the monument is the image of the Marquês de Pombal, a lion to contemplate Lisboa Pombalina, his masterpiece. At the base of the monument depicts works made by the Marquês, including the political, social and agricultural sectors, while also symbolized the great earthquake.
This Square has been the scene of entertainment and political events since the beginning of the twentieth century, including the decisive events that led to the Proclamation of the Portuguese Republic on October 5, 1910.
