Salhouse is a small, rural village within The Broads National Park in Norfolk. In 1086 the Doomsday book records that Salhouse was part of the Manor of Wroxham, then held by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Mostly an agricultural village, it was linked to Norwich by the railway in 1874. Much of Salhouse is covered by a Conservation Order in an attempt to preserve the rural setting.

Salhouse - Tourist Attractions

Salhouse is within easy access of the attractions in Norwich. In and around the village itself are various other local attractions, inlcuding:

• RAF Rackheath - former World War II RAF bomber station (Station 145) airfield with little recognizable today except the control tower.
• Salhouse Broad - 32 acres of Broad linked to the River Bure and now a nature conservation site.
• Wroxham Broad - Broad by the River Bure with sailing, home to the Norfolk Broads Yacht Club.
• Hoveton Great Broad - lying between Wroxham Broad and Salhouse Broad, this has no boat access but a broadwalk nature trail managed by Natural England.
• Wroxham - pretty town on the River Bure which considers itself the 'Capital of the Broads' and has the notoriously difficult-to-navigate Wroxham Bridge.
• Sprowston Manor - 16th century manor house now a hotel with a golf course attached.
• Beeston Hall - Grade II listed, 18th century park within which is the church of St Lawrence as well as the Serpentine lake, brick orangery, ice house and walled kitchen garden.
• Rural Villages - Salhouse is surrounded by small, picturesque villages like Rackheath, Beeston St Andrew, Woodbastwick, Horning and Great and Little Plumstead.
