Amol (آمل) is an old city in the Māzandarān district of Iran. The city lies on the banks of the Haraz river, about 10km south of the Caspian sea and 10km north of the Alborz mountains. At one time Amol was the capital of Mazandaran before this moved to Sari. It is a popular base from which to explore Mazandaran.
Amol - Tourist Attractions
- Mashhad Mir Bozorg (Mir Mara'shi) Tomb - 14th century tomb rebuilt in the 17th century and decorated with kufic script, on glazed bricks.
- Amol Bazaar - popular bazaar selling local produce and crafts.
- Ashraf Bath - 18th century bathhouse with 3 large and 7 small domes, located he Niaki Mahaleh of Amol.
- Darvazeh Pelleh Bridge - 120m long bridge built in the 18th century with 6m wide arches spanning the Haraz River.
- Amol Jame' Mosque - Dating from the 6th century (1st AH) with square courtyard and massive pillars like elephant feet. The mosque contains a decree of Soltan Hossein Safavid dated 1705 (1106 AH).
- Imamzadeh Abdollah - New pilgrimage site built around the tomb of Bibi Fatimeh in 1964 in the village of Osku Mahaleh, 12km southwest of Amol. Imamzadeh Ebrahim Tomb - Building contains the tomb of Imamzadeh Ebrahim who was martyred in Amol. On the doors and a wooden chest are carved inscriptions dating from 1524 (925 AH). Inside are various relics from the Qajar period.
- Alamol Waterfall - 100m high waterfall on the northern slopes of the Damavand Mountains, south of Amol
- Amoloo Mineral Water Spring - freshwater spring close to the Haraz River whose waters are reputed to have healing properties for skin diseases and bowel problems.
- Babol and Amol Forests - Beautiful forest covering the slopes of the Damavand Mountains with various valleys, springs and plenty of wildlife.
- Haraz River - With it's source in the Alborz Mountains in the Larijan Region, the Haraz is one of the main sources of water for the region, used for both leisure, fishing and agriculture.
- Rineh Thermal Springs - found in Rineh village in Larijan, popular for treating joint disorders, skin diseases and infections.
- Yakhi Waterfall - 70m high frozen waterfall at an altitude of 5100m near the Damavand Peak, continually supplied by met water from the glacier above it that then freezes on the waterfall itself.
- Lar and Damavand Mountains - Two ranges within the Alborz Mountains popular for walking and climbing. Famous peaks include Mangel Takht-e-Khers, Seh Sang, Damavand Peak, Haft Saran, Mehr Chal, Atashkadeh, Siyah Chal and Maaz.

Car: Amol is 180km northeast of Tehran, 30km west of Babol and 50km west of Qaemshahr. It is 25km south of Mahmoud Abad on the Caspian Sea.
