Hochgurgl is located in the Alps at the end of the 54 km long Ötztal valley 2,150 m above sea level, close to the South Tirol border. Hochgurgl is the highest ski resort in Austria and one of a cluster of three linked ski resorts, the others being Untergurgle (1,790) and Obergurgl (1,930 m). They are linked by the Top Express Gurgl, an 8-seater gondola which makes the journey in 8 minutes in incredible surroundings.

Piestes and runs:
The Hochgurgl ski area has 54 km of piestes, which, combined with the 56km of Obergurgl gives 110km of skiing. Of these 35km are easy (blue) slopes, 55km medium (red) and 20 km difficult (black). The runs include:
# Beginner slopes: Gaisberglift, Übungslift and Mahdstuhllift
# Medium-difficulut runs: Festkogl/Obergurgl, Schermerspitze/Hochgurgl
# Difficult runs: Buckelpiste Hohe Mut/Obergurgl and Top-Wurmkogl II / Hochgurgl
# Longest run: Wurmkogl – Obergurgl/Pill, an 8 km run which descends 1,260 meters

Hochgurgl is also popular with walkers in the summer.
