O primitivo Fortim de São Tiago na barra da Bertioga foi reconstruído, ao final do século XVII, em alvenaria de pedra e cal, tendo as suas obras definitivas sido concluídas em 1710, quando se encontrava artilhado com onze peças. O desenho da sua planta apresentava o formato de um polígono retangular com guaritas nos vértices.

This view shows Bertioga Fort, one of the local tourist attractions in Bertioga, taken from the beach. Properly known as 'Forti de São Tiago' (St James Fort), it dates from the 18th century, and is built out of stone and lime. The fort is rectangular with watchtowers at the corners, and originally contained 11 cannon defending the entrance to Bertioga Canal and the Rio Itapanhau.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Road: Bertioga lies on the SP-055 (BR101) road, about 40km east of Santos and Guarujá. It is about 120km from São Paulo.
