This lake belongs to the private ground of the country house next door, but it may be approached on foot either from the road or from the neighbouring natural woodland. The lake area has become an ideal environment for wildlife to flourish in securely, including fish, frog spawn, butterflies and insects. Happily during this visit, there were no midges - often a benefit of being a short distance away from their preferred habitat of pine trees and heather!
Nearby, the Forestry Commission has extensive managed forest of cultivated spruce pine trees. The Commission manage commercial forestry with great care put into land husbandry, protecting the environment and producing a sustainable crop that best suits it's host land. As such, this area has been kept in superb condition and, together with the small but beautiful grounds around Scatwell lake, this area is a delightful spot for a spending some quiet time.
