Loch Achonachie - FURTHER INFORMATION

Panorama showing Loch Achonachie in the Scottish Highlands.
Loch Achonachie lies south of Loch Achilty in Scotland. It's set back in a glen near Little Scatwell, Achilty, Fairburn and Maryburgh. The river coursing through Loch Achilty and Achonachie provide good course fishing. When this panorama was taken during a drive along the river, many people were actively relaxing on this waterway. Fishing in dinghies, from the shore or in waders, canoeing and kayaking - although such was the peacefulness of this area, they all seemed not to notice anyone passing by.
The ring road leisurely sweeps around the shores of Loch Achonachie, Loch Achilty and Little Scatwell until reaching Loch Meig Dam and returning along the other shore. This road is accessed opposite Achilty hotel, from the main road heading west from Inverness between Contin and Rogie Falls or from the other end of the loop at either the east side of Contin village (junction for Fairburn) or from Maryburgh near Muir of Ord and Beauly.
Travel and Getting There:
Loch Achonachie is accessed by a small road marked for "Loch Achilty" just west of the village of Contin while travelling west from Dingwall or Inverness. The road forms a loop around the lochs returning across the Loch Meig Dam exiting just east of Contin via Marybank near Muir of Ord.
