Dupont is a small town on Sequalitchew Creek at the southern end of the Puget Sound, south of Seattle in Washington state of the USA. The region around DuPont was originally inhabited by Nisqually tribe of Indians and surveyed by Captain George Vancouver in 1792. In 1833 the Hudson Bay Company built a fur trading post at Fort Nisqually and the Europeans had arrived.
DuPont was incorporated in 1912 and continues to grow today.
DuPont - Tourist Attractions
DuPont has a few tourist attractions for those visiting, including:- DuPont WA Visitor Information Center - with information about the local area, maps, hotel advice and more.
- DuPont PowderWorks Park - new park with various sports facilities, rest rooms and the remains of Orr House.
- Edmond Village Park - found near to the 1843 Fort Nisqually site along the bank of the Sequalitchew Creek, the park has play areas and connects to several walking trails.
- Tract "I" Park - hilltop park with picnic tables and connections to various trails.
- DuPont Historical Museum - opened in 1977 the museum covers the Hudson Bay era, DuPont Village and DuPont Explosive Company.
- The Home Course Golf Course - 18-hole golf course with panoramic views of Puget Sound, the Olympics and Mount Rainier.
- 1833 Site - Fort Nisqually - the remains of the site of the first fort, next to hole 1 of the Home Golf Course.
- 1843 Site - Fort Nisqually - second site for the fort, moved here to be more inland and closer to Sequalitchew Creek.
- Wilkes Observatory - set up in 1841 to aid the chartering of the Puget Sounds, accessed by a trail with views down into Nisqually Valley.
- Sequalitchew Creek and Trail - trail leading down to Sequalitchew Beach where you can see Bald Eagles, hawks, McKay's Bunting and various other creatures.
- Sequalitchew Beach - inhabited by Harbor Seal and Marbled Murrelet with Gray Whale watching possible at the right time of year.
