Gumicik Beach - FURTHER INFORMATION

Panorama showing Gumicik Beach, close to the tiny hamlet of Gumicik on Bali.
The beach at Gumicik is not popular with tourists, as it is not a sandy beach and there are no nearby hotels or beach resorts. The beach is still the domain of Balinese fishermen and their colourful outriggers are often seen pulled up onto the beach during fishing expeditions. In this panoramic photograph you can see a number of these fishing boats pulled up on a beach of coarse black sand.
Almost all of the residents of nearby Gumicik are involved in the fishing industry at one level or another, with the fishermen setting out to sea at about 4am each day. Often local merchants wait on the shore to haggle over the catch being landed. The prized fish is Grouper, because of the high price it can command.
