ChristChurch Cathedral - View from Spire - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This picture was taken in around 2008 as a composite walking around the Christchurch Cathedral spire. It is not perfect, but given the recent earthquake in Feb 2011 when the spire collapsed, is now of historic significance, a small tribute to the city and those who died in the earthquake.

ChristChurch Cathedral is the Anglican cathedral church in the middle of Christchurch in New Zealand. The church was built in Gothic style in the 19th century dominates Cathedral Square which it overlooks. Though the corner stone was laid in 1864, lack of finances delayed construction and the nave and tower were consecrated by 1881, with the whole church completed in 1904. It was built from local stone quarried on the Banks Peninsula.
The church had a 63m high spire, which collapsed during the earthquake in February 2011. Prior to the disaster it was possible to ascend the spire to a viewing platform with panoramic views over Christchurch and beyond.
