The Llŷn Peninsula, known in Welsh as Penrhyn Llŷn or Pen Llŷn, is a peninsula in Gwynedd extending 30 miles from Wales into the Irish Sea just south of the Isle of Anglesey. Know in Welsh as 'Penrhyn Llŷn' or 'Pen Llŷn', it has a large number of protected sites, including a National Nature Reserve at Cors Geirch, a National Heritage Coastline, a European Marine Special Area of Conservation, and 20 Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

Llyn Peninsula contains many small villages, filled with ancient buildings and monuments. Llŷn Peninsula - Tourist Attractions

Along with the numerous nature reserves and special protected sites, the Llyn Peninsula has plenty to offer visitors. Among the top tourist attractions and things to do on Llyn Peninsula are:
  • Narrow Gauge Railway - found at Porthmadog this short ride takes you to Pen-y-Mount to see a replica 1922 WHR Halt being constructed.
  • Abersoch - coastal town with surfing, sailing, horse riding, the Abersoch jazz festival and golf.
  • Criccieth Castle - 13th century castle overlooking Cardigan Bay.
  • St Mary's Church - found in Penllech and designated by Cadw as a Grade II* listed building.
  • Cors Geirch National Nature Reserve - wetland site in the valley running between Nefyn and Pwllheli.
  • Glolf - Llyn Peninsula has several golf courses, including the Porthmadog Golf Club near Morfa Bychan, Criccieth Golf Club at Criccieth, Pwllheli Golf Club just west of Pwllheli, Abersoch Golf Club at Abersoch, and Nefyn and District Golf Club near Morfa Nefyn

TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE

Road: The eastern edge of Llyn Peninsula is boundaried by A487 running north-south along the edge of Snowdonia National Park. The A499 runs along the northern edgy of Llyn Peninsula while the A497 feeds into the towns on the south.
Train: The southern coast is accessible by train, with stations at most of the coastal towns up to Pwllheli Rail Station including Abererch, Penychain, Criccieth, Porthmadog, Minffordd Ffestiniog and Penrhyndeudraeth.
