Marazion, called Marghasyow in Cornish, is a beautiful town on the shores of Mount's Bay in southwest Cornwall, not far from Penzance. The town is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1088 and is today a very popular tourist destination, most famous for St Michael's Mount, one of the most famous tourist attractions in Cornwall. The town is also blessed by the beautiful setting and beaches of Mount's Bay and is within easy reach of all the major attractions in west Cornwall.

Marazion - St Michael's Mount

Often considered the jewel in the crown for Cornwall, St Michael's Mount and one of the most famous landmarks. Prior to the flooding of Mount's Bay by the sea, it is thought that St Michael's Mount was surrounded by woodland. This is reflected by it's Cornish name Karrek Loos y'n Koos (Grey Rock in the Woods). Records of dramatic flooding of the area around 1099 are found in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle.

The monastery on St Michael's Mount was established in the 8th century after the archangel Michael was believed to have appeared to local fishermen in the 5th century. Many of the monastic buildings present today date from the 12th century. Today, St Michael's Mount is managed by the National Trust, with the castle and grounds open to the public (entrance fees apply to non-members of the National Trust). The island is accessible on foot via St Michael's Causeway at low tide, and by boat at other times.
