Sebastiansplatz - FURTHER INFORMATION
Sebastiansplatz - Brig visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Sebastiansplatz' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Valais.
Sebastianplatz is a beautiful square in the center of Brig (Birg-Glis) in Switzerland. The square is surrounded by good shops and hotels. There is also a good variety of restaurants which serve regional cheeses and wines. On the edge of the square is the small Sebastianskapelle church built in 1637.
Within the Sebastianplatz is a statue dedicated to the Peruvian aviator Jorge Chávez, who was the first man to fly over the Alps in 1910. Jorge flew up the Simplon pass and crossed over to Domodossola in Italy. Sadly, the plane crashed on landing and he died shortly after.
See the Brig page for more information about the town and local attractions.
