The small village of Praa Sands in Cornwall lies on the south coast part way between Penzance and Lizard Point. Traditionally Praa Sands was a mining community, and the village is surrounded by the remains of numerous tin mines. The village lies in a depression in Mount's Bay and today is a popular tourist destination thanks to Praa Sands Beach.
Praa Sands - Tourist Attractions
Praa Sands is most famous for Praa Sands Beach, reputed to be one of the best sandy beaches in the UK and popular with families, surfers, bathers and others. Other local tourist attractions and sights of interest include:- Pengersick Castle - medieval castle reported to be one of the most haunted buildings in Cornwall.
- Kennegy Beach - lying to the west of Praa Sands this lovely beach is accessible via a cliff path.
- South West Coast Path - the South West Coast Path runs along the beach and then continues on the cliff tops either side of Praa Sands, making walking popular year round with stunning coastal views.
- Rinsey Head - headland at the western end of Praa Sands beach with great views, especially east to Trewavas Head.
- Praa Sands Golf Course - 9 hole golf course with a Par 62 for men and Par 64 for women and associated country club.
- Germoe - small village just north of Praa Sands with St Germoe church, Kenneggy Methodist Chapel and St Germoe's Throne.
Praa Sands has numerous camp and caravan sites for visitors as well as good bed-and-breakfast (B&B) options.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Bus: Local bus services stopping at Praa Sands post office run both to Helston and Penzance.
Car: Praa Sands lies just south of the A394, 8 miles west of Penzance and 6.5 miles east of Helston.
Train: Penzance Station, about 8 miles west of Praa Sands.
Flight: Newquay Airport
