Achnasheen - River Bran

Photographer Description of Achnasheen - River Bran

There had to be some way of making something of Achnasheen on a windy and rainy day. So after waiting in the little tea shop by the station for a shower to pass (which it did - only to be followed promptly by another!), I went down to near the River Bran where the gorse bushes were in full bloom to take this panoramic photographed being watched by some quite bemused sheep. A patch of sun just about managed a brief appearance on the hill above Achnasheen itself. Achnasheen - now is that a reference to the lack of sun or the lack of alcohol here...

Achnasheen - River Bran - Further Information

Panorama from the fields between the tiny village of Achnasheen (Achadh na Sine) and the River Bran in Scotland. This panoramic photograph shows Achnasheen at the bottom of Meall a' Chaorainn (705m), taken from a field on the banks of the River Bran amongst the gorse in full bloom. The area is well known for good hill walking and hiking. For more information about Achnasheen and some of the hotels, B&B's or other accommodation in the area please see the Achnasheen Station panorama.

Travel and Getting There
Achnasheen lies near to the junction between the A832 (which runs from Grostari near Inverness to Gairloch in the north) and the A890. The A890 runs west from Achnasheen down Glen Carron and Loch Carron past Stromeferry to Kyle of Lochalsh.
