Named after explorer Edward John Eyre, the 1,675 kilometre long Eyre Hwy aka National Highway 1 links Western Australia and South Australia between Norseman and Port Augusta. Construction of the highway started in 1941 and was completed in 6 months only. Despite being now sealed the entire distance, the route is still considered a journey that every Australian should complete once in a lifetime because of the road's remoteness and significance.
