Pura Purwasidhi Ponjokbatu - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panoramic photograph of Purwasidhi Ponjokbatu Temple was taken late in the afternoon, probably around 5pm. The light was beginning to fade, and I knew I still had to find petrol somewhere on the road and get back to Sanur. However, the temple makes a reasonable break when driving along the north coast of Bali.

Panorama of Purwasidhi Ponjokbatu Temple (Pura Purwasidhi Ponjokbatu) in Bali. This temple is on the north coast of Bali and is reputed to be about 5000 years old. Archaeologists have found evidence of pre-Hindu graves and a smaller temple on the site. The temple was recently undergoing renovations.
To get into the temple you must dress in a sarong, and the local guide may rub some rice on your forehead. You then ascend some steps and pass through an outer courtyard into the inner courtyard visible in this panoramic photograph. A series of steps leads down from Pura Purwasidhi Ponjokbatu to a small stony cove which has an offering shrine on the shore and a little rock carved into a ship a couple of meters in the water.
Pura Purwasidhi Ponjokbatu is on a cliff top overlooking the ocean to the north of Bali. It is said to be one of the directional temples (kayangan jagat) that protects Bali from evil spirits. This temple is not marked on many maps or in many guide books on Bali. Local guides at the temple will show you around, and expect you to make a donation for you effort.
