The coastal town of Inverloch approx. 140 kilometres south-east of Melbourne, lies at the mouth of Anderson Inlet and has a population of about 4,000. Anderson Inlet is a large shallow estuary where Tarwin River enters Bass Strait. Anderson Inlet attracts large numbers of visitors due to its protected waters of the inlet and the surf beaches on the Bass coast.
