Balmacara Square is a small settlement on the Balmacara Estate and is about 3 miles east of and 5 miles from in the Scottish Highlands.Many of the buildings in Balmacara Square have recently been restored by the National Trust for Scotland, who own the surrounding estate. The square was restored from wasteland in the late 1990s and features a picturesque pond as it's centerpiece. This pond is a delightful spot to relax and watch the ducks, or even the weekend hobbyists who sail their model boats here, affectionately known as the "Balmacara Boat Club".
The square has flourished since this rehabilitation and a small number of converted barns are now premises for trade, including a traditional map shop, beauty salon and textile craft workshop. There are a number of Bed and Breakfast (B&B), guest houses and other types of holiday accommodation available in and around Balmacara Square.
Travel Directions and Getting There:
Balmacara Square is only three miles east of Kyle of Lochalsh. Look small turning off the A87 sign posted for both Balmacara Square and Plockton.
