Castle Hill, Little Wittenham - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Wittenham Clumps, Oxfordshire, constitutes two landmarks in the Sinodun Hills. The foreground prominence is Castle Hill, beyond is the more sparsely vegetated Round Hill. Another local name for the hills is "Mother Dunches Buttocks". Castle Hill is the site of an Iron Age hill fort with extensive defensive earthworks. Sutton Courtenay electricity generating station can be seen from the shoulder between the two hills, as can the flood plain meadows of Dorchester. Both are on the Thames which forms a wide meander between Long and Little Wittenham. The site has open public access and is managed by the Earth Trust.
