Hobart - FURTHER INFORMATION

Hobart - Hobart visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Hobart' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Tasmania.

Hobart is the capital of the island state Tasmania which lies 240 kilometres south of the Australian continent separated by Bass Strait. Hobart has a population of about 200,000 people which accounts for approximately 40% of the population of Tasmania.

Hobart is the smallest capital in Australia which can be clearly seen in the strong European influence in the older suburbs. The next large land mass south of Tasmania is Antarctica which explains the mild climate of comfortable average summer temperatures with 21°C and average winter temperatures of 12°C.

Hobart has most of the main industries that support Tasmania, tourism, food and wine, arts, aquaculture, non-food agriculture, marine manufacturing, forestry and timber products, mining technology and minerals and Antarctic and Southern Ocean Science.
