As the name suggests, the River Embankment Park lies next to the River Nene just south of Peterborough Cathedral and the city center of Peterborough. Within the area lie the Key Theatre and Peterborough Lido. Aside from playing sports, the area is used for public events, and a good place to relax on a sunny day away from the shopping crowds.
Just downriver from the park is a 16th century customs house which once guided boats to a wharf here. The banks of the river are lined with willow trees and popular with walkers, cyclists and anglers.
