Bucky Doo Square - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This little square in the heart of Bridport is possibly named after a pub called the 'Buck and Doe' which once stood near the site many hundreds of years ago. It is now a popular meeting place and the location of a monthly farmer's market.

Bridport is a small town in West Dorset about half way between Dorchester and Lyme Regis. The origins of the town are unknown, but it is thought to date from the times of the Saxons and Alfred the Great (871-899). The town is recorded in the Norman Doomsday Book (1086). Around the 13C the town developed a worldwide reputation for excellent rope and net making. The rope making industry thrived here for about 650 years, with exports being shipped all over the world. Nowadays this little town is known for the beauty of the surrounding countryside, and is popular with tourists in the summer. The town has numerous small hotels, cottages or bed and breakfast (B&B) places for people to stay in.
Bridport is close to West Bay on the coast, known for the long pebble beach and great views along the cliffs of Dorset. This is sometimes called the Golden Gateway of the Jurassic Coast, though other towns in the area also lay claim to being the gateway of this area known for fossils and set aside as a World Heritage Site. The Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club is next to West Bay.
