Cala Figuera

Photographer Description of Cala Figuera

Hopefully this deserted and rather inaccessible beach on the Formentor Peninsular will remain as tranquil as is is in this photograph. It can be viewed on pleasure boat trips from the nearby Puerto Pollença, or if you are really determined to seek it out, it can be reached by a steep climb down from somewhere along the main road between Cap Formentor and the Cabo Formentor lighthouse at the tip of the peninsular.

Cala Figuera - Further Information

Panorama taken from Cala Figuera (Cala Fiquera) on the northeastern coast of Mallorca. This is one of the most inaccessible calas on Mallorca, and is therefore often deserted. The cala is on the Formentor Peninsula, where the rock formations are stark and rugged. There are no facilities on the beach and access is not easy. The area is well known for bird watching.

The Formentor Penisula is famous for the high hills where bare rock rises sharply to the south at an incline of up to 45 degrees to a height of up to nearly 400m from sea level. These mountains include the 'La Sierra del Cavall Bernat' (The horse Bernat mountain range). The Talaia d'Albercutx, an old tower set high on the peninsula, and the Mirador de Mal Pas viewpoint are some of the best viewpoints on the Formentor peninsula which offer fantastic panoramic views of both the peninsula and the bays of Pollença and Alcudia.
