Roman Ruins on Sv Marije Island - FURTHER INFORMATION
Roman Ruins on Sv Marije Island - Mljet Island visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Roman Ruins on Sv Marije Island' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Dubrovnik-Neretva.
Sv Marije Island is considered the jewel in the crown of Mljet National Park on Mljet Island, famous for the 12th century Benedictine Monastery of Saint Mary. However, the island was occupied long before the Benedictines arrived, as evidenced by the Roman ruins found both here and in Polače.
Most people who visit Sv Marije come to see the church, have a drink at the restaurant and swim in the clear waters of Malo jezro. Few people explore the ancient Roman ruins found near the top.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Ferry: small ferries run from Sv Marije Island to both Malo jezro and Pristaniste. From Pristaniste a mini-bus runs regularly to Polače.
